Parle Products is India’s leading manufacturer of biscuits and confectionery products. It is an Indian-originated food products industry. In the current scenario, parle is the largest selling biscuits brand in the world, as per the Nielsen TV report of 2020. Parle has a 92-year legacy and people have trust in it.
Parle products Company was established before the independence of India in 1929, the product journey started too much earlier. British came to India with Candy and Cookies, But those products only afford rich people. The Swadeshi Movement started in India and Boycott British products, Mohanlal Dayal was a part of it. He had decided to manufacture Indian-origin brand candy and every common person can test it. He had gone to Germany for learning the candy-making process and brought one Candy making machine for 60,000 rupees.
In 1929, Mohanlal Dayal started confectionery at Vile Parle, Mumbai. The Parle company name is also based on the Vile Parle location, they slightly modified it. The Parle house started with 12 workers and their first manufactured product was orange candy. The orange candy became well known in some short period of time. In the 90s, British people ate cookies with tea. Indian people cant Mohanlal Dayal also wants to enter in cookies segment business. In 1938 the first biscuit was baked in the Parle house and given the name Parle Gluco.
The Parle Gluco biscuits became the world’s largest selling biscuits at the time of WW2 (World War 2). After the independent Parle Gluco biscuits production was stopped due to raw material supplies. The farm revolution came in India after that Parle Gluco production started continuously. In 1950, Parle company led by Vijay, Sharad, and Raj Chauhan. They became the owners of Biscuits and Confectionery products ( 20-20, Parle G, Magic, Kismi Toffee, Poppins, etc). The Parle Glucco was renamed Parle-G in 1985 due to some copyright issues. The Perle-G exactly stood for Glucco, but after Parle stated a slogan G for Genius.
Parle Products and Market Share –
In 2003 Parle G became India’s first FMCG brand to cross the 5000 Crore revenue generated through retail sales. In 2019, Parle had a 7% dominance in the global biscuits Market Share and end of 2020 it becomes 50% as per Nielsen (Media and Research). Parle is the largest selling brand in the world. It’s well known in India and they sold different types of products under the Parle brand house like Biscuits, Candy, Snacks, etc. Parle has some popular brands, these are Parle-G (1938), Monaco (1942-1945), Cheeseling(1956), Krack- Jack(1974), Hide & Seek(1996), 20-20, Milk Shakti, Fab!, Top, Burbon, Magic, Bakesmith, Happy Happy, Parle Gold Star, Nutricrunch.
Parle products also have confectionery and snacks product like orange candy (1929), Kismi Toffee bar (1963), Poppins (1996), Londonderry, 2in1 Eclair, Mango Bite (1986), Kacha Mango Bite, Strawberry Bite(2020) and some delicious snacks are Mexico Nachos, Parles Wafers, Full toss, Parle Nankeen, Parle Rusk, Parle Cake. The Parle produced 1 billion Parle-G Brand biscuits packets per month and these packets are sold in 5 million retail stores across the world.
On 7 June 2021, Parle Products Limited announced its entry into the wheat flour market with the launching of ‘Parle-G Chakki Atta’.
Parle Investment And Businesses –
Parle products have large-scale automation for manufacturing the best quality biscuits and candy. Parle invested in the last few years in ERPs and process automation. They changed their packaging covering wax paper to plastic packaging paper. Parle has 10 company-owned facilities and 125 contract-based manufacturing units. It’s captured the major market shares in the U.S.A, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. Parle has a manufacturing unit in 7 countries outside of India, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and Ethiopia. In 2018, Parle also added a new manufacturing unit in Mexico.
The Parle products have received globally recognized certificated ( FSSC:22000, ISO:22000, and Halal Certification ) and they have a membership of some international associations like BCMA ( USA ), etc. Parle products found their way into the heart and homes of people all over the India and world. Its biscuits and confectionery products are the fastest growing industry in the international market.
Parle Ad Campaign and Achievements –
We all know about Parle girl and also heard some rumours about her. When Parel group product manager Mayank Shah said that the baby girl in the picture is just an illustration, which was made by Everest Creative’s artists Maganlal Saiya in the picture, all the rumours were falls 1990s. Parle-G is the only brand that doesn’t need any promotion to sustain itself in the market.
Since Parle products entered the food industry competition of Monde Selection ( Annual Non- competitive award open to food, drink, and cosmetics) in 1971. The Parle has 5 consistently gold and silver awards at the world quality selection.
